THE TRUE COST OF MAGIC

Exploring the true value of magic, we’ve also secured the financial figures to show the most expensive and profitable movies, along with the ones with the highest audience reception ratings.

Interestingly, although voted the least favourite films, both of the Fantastic Beasts releases had budgets of £200,000,000 – making them amongst the most expensive movies to be released. On the flip side, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets had the lowest budget and proved to be the most profitable, making a staggering £778,979,634 ROI.

THE MOST MAGICAL MOVIES

In each of the 10 movies we also counted how many spells were cast, the number of magical creatures and items, along with the number of magical terms used. After tallying up our data, we can reveal that Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 contains the most magic overall, with an impressive 80 magical creatures and 100 wands appearing throughout the movie. It seems the magnificent amount of magic was well received, as this is the movie loved the most by fans and critics.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban proved to be the least magical movie, with a total of just 88 magical encounters throughout; thus failing to give us an escape from the mortal realm.

Lord Voldemort is mentioned 42 times throughout the movie, so therefore receives the most attention in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Harry’s name is referenced just 26 times so you can consider he steals the limelight in this instance.

To compile the data, we worked with a team of movie experts who counted up the magical factors for each movie over the course of four weeks. Other sources: Budgets, release dates, worldwide gross, Rotten Tomatoes Scores, Scripts.
