ARCADE CLUB

Located in Bury, just outside Manchester, this is Europe’s largest arcade. Over 400 machines across multiple floors – it’s a pilgrimage-worthy spot for any retro gaming fan! There are dedicated floors to different eras of gaming such as classic arcades – from Donkey Kong to Dance Dance Revolution. But also Japanese machines such as Astro City units, which are perfect for shmups! Along with the latest and greatest offerings…

If you’re up for a full-on retrogaming nostalgia tour, Arcade Club is THE place to go!

REWIND COLLECTIBLE & GAMES

Located in Ashton-under-Lyne, this store is a treasure trove of retro games, consoles, and memorabilia. Granted, there are not many independent retrogaming stores in the area but this one is probably the best…

Think boxed SNES games, vintage SEGA gear, and an extensive collection of quirky wrestling collectibles!

NQ64 ARCADE BAR

This is now a franchise with bars in Bristol, London and Edinburgh but it all started here in Manchester and there are now 2 in the city! The original in the Northern Quarter and at Peter Street, too. A graffiti-covered gem of a bar packed with vintage arcade machines and retro consoles like SEGA Mega Drives, SNES, and original PlayStation. You’ll find classics like Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, and Pac-Man, all alongside cocktails and craft beer…

CONSOLE WIZARD

As the keen video games collectors that we are, it’s a sensitive subject when it comes to fixing or restoring old consoles. These chaps are the best in the business, with a personal touch, fair pricing and a good range of services on offer. They have recently moved to a new location but it’s well worth a trip to Bolton, and the CEX nearby isn’t too bad…

CEX

We won’t hark on too much about CEX but you can’t ignore the stock levels and pretty fair pricing. From NES and Master System to modern home consoles and Steam Deck handhelds, they do it all. In terms of Manchester, there are plenty of locations to choose from:

The best store is probably Stockport, with sizeable stock and floor space, easy parking and well-versed staff when it comes to gaming knowledge.

WHERE NOT TO GO…

When it comes to retrogaming, don’t bother with GAME. No longer dealing in pre-owned games, they are not the place for retrogaming – unless it’s Evercade (which is brilliant, good choice) or a retro collection on a next-gen console

Previously, they were the dominant force in UK gaming stores. Now, most are tucked away inside a Sports Direct alongside dusty golf clubs. Be warned – they’re more likely to have Lego than the video game you are looking for.
