Can’t get to the cinema? Subscribed to all streaming services? Here is a comprehensive list for the BAFTAs 2022 – NOMINATED FILMS ON TV! As this is for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts we are particularly focusing on the Television element here and never has it been more important. With a combination of streaming services such as Netflix and the COVID-19 global pandemic, the latest and greatest films have been more accessible than ever to be able to view from the comfort of your own home these past few years… But what about 2022?

Adam McKay’s latest environmental-conscious film probably has the most star-studded, award-lauded cast this year which includes Brad Pitt, Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett to name but a few. Nominations are:

THE POWER OF THE DOG

This Western psychological drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst was written and directed by Jane Campion is one of this year’s most nominated film across all categories, including:

  • Best Film
  • Best Director – Jane Campion
  • Adapted Screenplay – Jane Campion
  • Lead Actor – Benedict Cumberbatch
  • Supporting Actor – Jesse Plemons, Kodi Smit-McPhee
  • Original Score – Jonny Greenwood
  • Cinematography – Ari Wegner
  • EE Rising Star Award – Kodi Smit-McPhee

PASSING

Set in 1920s New York City, this film has been picked for the award of Outstanding Debut from British writer/director Rebecca Hall, along with:

  • Best British Film
  • Lead Actress – Tessa Thompson
  • Supporting Actress – Ruth Negga

ALSO AVAILABLE ON NETFLIX

  • The Mitchells vs. The Machines (Best Animated) – from the team that brought the superb Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018) expectations were high, but for me they did not quite deliver

DISNEY PLUS

The launch of Disney Plus with a global pandemic that required us all to stay indoors saw another success story for the ever-expanding studio. Some may turn their noses up but credit is due for delivering one of the hits of the year direct to the service at no extra cost…

ENCANTO

Everybody is talking about Bruno – number one song worldwide, surely this will pick up Best Animated Film? If not, my next vote goes to a Disney/Pixar collaboration…

LUCA

After the heartache of Onward, this straight-to-streaming feature from the Powerhouse studio was much more uplifting for those lockdown blues!
