Joni200Are you ready to be whisked off your feet, to explore a new world, discover hidden treasures, escape near-death experiences and uncover the mysteries of our forefathers? LET’S ESCAPE! I’ve been thinking of my ideal journey (prepare yourself for lots of exclamation marks – it’s an adventure after all!?) carefully pieced together by an essential playlist of films to fill your weekend:

Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Rolling rocks, a trusty whip (& hat) to keep you safe, searching for historical artefacts, fighting baddies, this genre defining movie has it all! It may be just a little too dangerous…

The Pagemaster (1994)

Knowing that at any step along the way you might plunge deeper into a whole new world (registered trademark) was the real strength of this. If you’ve not seen it, it’s like the thousands of doors at the end of Monsters Inc., but with books! Do you remember those things that were made from paper…?

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

Ah the original story where a nobody is taken from their safe haven and face the ultimate sacrifice of giving up your home comforts to embark on a trip where the finishing post is, well, Hell on Earth (registered trademark).

I’d take a Lord of the Rings map over Google Maps every day of the week!

Sahara (2005)

The beautiful girl, the expensive gadgets, the sand in your face… Hitch a ride on a camel and let’s go find us some treasure! It’s a real shame that legal battles prevented this from becoming a series of films. Certainly underrated.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest (2006)

Talking of finding us some treasure (see above), this is the perfect mood setter! It’s so out of this world as the series peaked in this second installment introducing some of the most colourful characters you’d wish to meet!

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011)

Most adventure stories require us to use our brain to get us through and Tintin is smarter than most! This also gets included for how good it is in 3D, it’s like a roller coaster ride!

  1. Nice map

  2. And The Pagemaster STILL isn’t available on region 2 DVD! I love it so much.. It’s an outrage!!
